Tb Plus Energy, a Colombian-based company with offices in the United States and China, has achieved a significant milestone in the energy sector through the collaboration of two leading firms: Delta Electronics from Taiwan and Hoypower from Shanghai. Together, they have developed the first lithium-polymer battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 1.5 megawatt-hours and an ultra-fast transfer rate of 3 milliseconds.
The human eye typically perceives a change or flicker in a light bulb within 15 milliseconds. The system developed by Tb Plus Energy can detect and respond to changes in the power flow in just 3 milliseconds, allowing pumps used in oil extraction fields to maintain pressure and avoid shutdowns during power interruptions—events that can represent millions of dollars in losses for energy companies.
This innovative system is scheduled to begin operations in August at a station owned by one of the top three oil-producing companies in Colombia.
The BESS installation site is located two hours from the city of Yopal, in the Eastern Plains (Llanos Orientales) of Colombia, an area that represents one of the country’s most important energy production regions.
The BESS will store energy to support grid stability and improved demand management. By utilizing lithium-polymer batteries, the system is expected to reduce approximately 4,500 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions annually, contributing to the fight against climate change.
